The Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) is a new Algorithm combining the time series analysis and contextual (spatial) processing for cloud detection and retrieval of atmospheric aerosol and surface bidirectional reflectance properties. MAIAC takes advantage of different time/space variability of land surface reflectance and aerosols to separate their respective contributions in the measurements. It accumulates retrieved surface information for each 1km grid cell which helps the “next-day” processing. I will give a detailed overview of MAIAC cloud masking, aerosol retrieval and atmospheric correction procedures along with several application examples.
