In 2017, we tested our new, compact version of the ground mini-LHR as part of the Hawai’i Space Exploration Analog and Simulation (Hi-SEAS) program which is a long duration Mars analog simulation program operated by the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. More information about Hi-SEAS can be found at: https://www.hi-seas.org/.  Hi-SEAS crew members used the mini-LHR to monitor atmospheric conditions as they would in a Mars deployment. Crew members lived in a geodesic dome habitat and could only access the mini-LHR during extravehicular activity (EVA) outings.  Because crewmembers were required to wear “space suits” that significantly limited manual dexterity, we added a touch screen interface that could be used with a stylus pen.
