Mesoscale Processes Events

For two decades, NASA has had a global view of precipitation from space. Using measurements from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission and the Global Precipitation Measurement mission – a joint effort with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) – a computer model creates a four-dimensional view of rain, snow, sleet and storms.

NASA’s Terra satellite passed over the Southern Pacific Ocean and captured an image of Tropical Storm Gretel as it was transitioning into an extra-tropical cyclone, northwest of New Zealand.

Stephen Lang (612/SSAI) wrote an article on the impact of drought conditions on the Australia fire season as seen by the GPM IMERG global precipitation product.

NASA’s Terra satellite passed over the Southern Indian Ocean and provided forecasters with a visible image of newly formed Tropical Storm 22S, located near northeastern Madagascar.

As the Deputy Project Manager for the NASA IMPACTS project (Investigation of Microphysics and Precipitation for Atlantic Coast-Threatening Snowstorms), I spent January and February at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, managing the deployment site for the ER-2 and the mission scientists.
